FAQs

How is the beef sold?

We can sell by the live calf and you are welcome to take him to your preferred processor.  But, we know this can be pretty overwhelming, to say the least.  As a service, we can have the calf processed and you can purchase by the full beef or half beef.

How many pounds of beef do I get?

Obviously, each steer is different but after a steer is harvested, each HALF will hang at APPROXIMATELY 300 pounds.  You can figure that out of the 300 pounds, the half steer will yield about 65-70% of packaged beef or about 210 pounds for your freezer.  You will need about 5-7 cubic feet of freezer space.  Remember, these are average numbers to help you figure what you'll get and how much freezer space you'll need.  Please contact me and I will be able to tell you what size calves we currently have available.

What cuts of beef will I get?

If you purchase half of a beef, you will get all the cuts that half yields.  This calf will be custom cut to your specifications.  You will decide how thick you want your steaks, how many approximate pounds you prefer for your roasts, if you want some cuts tenderized, etc.  This may sound daunting but don't worry.  We will work together to make all of these decisions effortless.  Also, email me now for a sample cut sheet.  This way, you can see an example of what cuts an average beef half will yield.

How is the beef priced?

Our beef is priced at $6.00 per pound of hanging weight plus processing at cost. So, in our example above, a 300 pound beef half will cost $1,800 plus approx. $375 for the processing for a total of $2,175.

What if I can't buy a whole beef or even a half?

When a calf is processed, it is hung in two halves for dry aging. That is why true farm to table beef sales are sold by the half beef.  If you just can't handle a half beef right now, then let’s look into ”cow pooling.”

So...what is Cow Pooling?

Yep. It's a funny term but it makes a lot of sense.  Cow Pooling is when a group of friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc get together to share a beef or even share a half.  This is an economical way to fill your freezer with all-natural Angus beef without having to buy a large quantity yourself.

Can I just buy certain cuts, like steaks?

Unfortunately, no.  I'm just not set up to offer our beef that way.  The good news is when you check out the sites that sell steak variety packs, they "water down" their price with hot dogs and potato side dishes.  Here you get all beef for a much better price per pound.

The calves are grass fed, are they grass finished?

We have developed a unique way to finish our calves.  60-75 days before harvest, we start an extremely high fiber diet that eliminates the grass-fed taste that comes from animals harvested directly off a grass only diet.  This gives the beef a corn-fed taste without sacrificing the grass-fed benefits.

Will I have customization options?

Yes, of course!  Some examples are bone-in ribeyes or no bone.  Thickness of steaks and roasts or whether to turn part of your hamburger into snack sticks or not.  Your beef is customized to your specifications.
